Fender Stratocaster 1960 Fiesta Red
We are selling this one-owner 1961 Stratocaster for the daughter of the deceased owner (the serial number dates back to late '60). I have gone through and through this thing and here is what I know:
It is refinished Fiesta Red. There is no evidence of the original finish that I can find. The pencil date (11/60) is visible in the unfinished trem spring cavity. You can see some grain under the Fiesta finish. The owners daughter, born in the late 70's has only known this as a red instrument.
The neck has no markings, no dates. Decal has been replaced. No Model name or patent #'s. You can see the outline in the lacquer of the "Contour Body" decal that is missing. Tuners were replaced at one time. Elusion Delux Tuners from the era are on it now. I can't say if they are the originals. Frets are replaced. The look like 6105 size. There are 2 small holes on the front of the headstock that have been filled. I have no way of absolutely confirming that this is the original neck. As a tech who has seen and worked on a lot of vintage instruments as well as building my own reliced instruments, this is a very old neck. there is no doubt about that!
The pickups are original. The volume pot is replaced. Tone pots are dated 10/61. The Carling switch is original. Some saddle height screws are replaced.
The case is a post '64 case, black tolex with plastic Fender logo and orange interior.
This guitar has been well played and some parts replaced or modded, but plays and sounds like a champ!
