M. G. Contreras Flamenco Student Model 1980's-1990's - Natural with Hard Case & Wittner Mechanical Tuners
For your consideration, we present the quintessential student Flamenco guitar.
According to our expert and fellow music shop owner, Randy Osborn (Fine Fretted String Instruments, Campbell, CA), this Contreras was produced in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Though this cannot be verified, it is most likely that this instrument was produced alongside the Sanchis line of guitars, as it bears a striking resemblance to a Vicente Sanchis Model 40 Flamenco. With its traditional construction of Ebony friction tuners, Cypress back and sides and Spruce top with Valencia-style bracing, this instrument tonally punches far above its weight limit. However, our shop was of the impression that no player coming into our shop would want to deal with friction tuning pegs. The solution was a set of long-backordered-from-Europe Wittner geared friction tuning machines, transporting the tuning stability of this otherwise-very-traditional instrument into present-day precision.
Spruce Top
Valencia-style Bracing
Cyprus Body
Mahogany Neck
Ebony Fingerboard
Upgraded Wittner Geared Friction Tuning Machines
Floral Rosette
Bone Nut
Bone Saddle
Rosewood Headstock Overlay, Bridge, & Binding
25 3/4" Scale
Flat Radius
2 1/8" Nut Width
This guitar is in Very good condition, showing signs of light-to-moderate use and careful storage. As stated above, our team converted the peghead from friction peg tuners to a set of Wittner geared friction tuning machines. The golpeador shows some pick scratches which are only apparent when held to the light. There are several minor dents and dings on the body of this guitar, as well as instances of fine finish scratches throughout which are difficult to see unless held to the light. This guitar was recently restrung with a set of Rotosound Superia strings. This package includes a non-original Alvarez hard case. Should you require more photos of this instrument's condition- as there are more instances of flaws than our 25 photo limit will allow- please contact us via Reverb and we will gladly share them with you.
