Pierre Anastasio Petite Bouche Gypsy Jazz Manouche Guitar #162D 1991
For your consideration, we present another Gypsy Jazz beauty from Europe's most-prominent Manouche-style luthiers.
Pierre Anastasio hails from the famous Anastasio family of French luthiers. A protege of his father, François Anastasio, Pierre apprenticed with legendary builder Antoine Di Mauro at the early age of 14. in 1972, Pierre took over the Anastasio company and has since built instruments for the likes Angelo Debarre, Raphael Fays, Didi Duprat, Laurent Bajata, Serge Camps, Boulou Ferré, Patrick Saussois and Moreno Winterstein.
This example, #162D, is a Petite Bouche-style instrument with a 26 3/4" scale. The body is comprised of a European Spruce top and highly-figured Flamed Maple back & sides. The neck is also Flamed maple and is topped with a dark Ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlays and 21x Medium Jumbo frets. This mostly-blonde instrument is kissed with Ebony & Rosewood accents, with a Rosewood headstock overlay, Ebony binding with maple purfling, Ebony & Maple Rosette with a Rosewood block accent, and a floating Rosewood bridge with Ebony moustache. Its brass tailpiece is adorned with a "Compass Rose" motif and is padded with black suede and the Brass Tuning Machines are tastefully accented with pearloid tuning buttons.

This guitar is in Excellent-To-Very Good condition, showing signs of light-to-moderate wear and careful storage. This instrument was previously owned and played by prominent Django scholar and Manoughe gunslinger, Jimmy Grant. There is pickwear on the top in the expected area, as well as several minor dents scattered throughout the top which are difficult to see unless held to the light. Our tech deduced that this guitar was at some point refretted. There are minor wear marks on the reverse of the neck at the 5th and 9th fret positions which do not affect playability. We are unclear if this guitar retains its original bridge. Though, because its wood differs from the wood in the tailpice, we suspect that it has been replaced sometime in this instruments life . The brass tailpiece shows a moderate amount of tarnish. This guitar was recently set-up by our expert tech and restrung with a set of Argentine loop end strings.
