Rivera Knucklehead 50w Rackmount Head late-1990's RARE Owned by Steve Miller 1 of 12
For your consideration, we present an extremely rare rackmount amplifier, previously owned by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Steve Miller. Yes - THAT Steve Miller.
We reached out to Rivera directly about his unit and uncovered some interesting details. According to our source at Rivera, Richard Pruchinski, this Knuckle Head 50w Rackmount guitar head was produced by Rivera in either 1998 or 1999. The Rackmount configuration of the Knuckle Head was a special run of only 12, and all 12 examples were produced SPECIFICALLY for Steve Miller. Apparently, there was a shortage in the metal used by Rivera at the time, so production of this Rackmount was limited to only 12.
This amp packs 2x EL34 power tubes and 5x 12AX7 Preamp tubes. All standard Knuckle Head controls are present. On channel one, we have Volume and Master, 3-Band EQ, and a Push-Pull boost switch on the Master Volume. On channel two, we have the same layout with additional "Ninja Boost" on the Master, "Bright" push-pull on the Low EQ knob, and "Notch" push-pull on the Mid EQ Knob. The reverse of the head bears no serial number, only designated as "RV-1" in marker. Controls on the reverse include a polarity switch, output selector of 4/8/16ohm, a pentode/triode preamp switch, and a mysterious switch only marked as "More." This amp has 2 1/4" speaker output jacks, one 1/4" line out jack, and 1/4" send and return for the effects look with attenuated volume controls for send and return.
This amp is in Good condition, showing signs of moderate use and careful storage. The face of this amp has some light scratches and flaws, with some light paint loss inside of the Rivera logo. One the rackmount brackets is slightly bent. The amplifier is stenciled "STEVE MILLER BAND" on the top of the amp in gold paint. This package includes documentation from Guitar Showcase in San Jose regarding its previous ownership, power cord, and an original Rivera FZ-7 with connecting cable. The footswitch controls partial functionality of this amp, as it is assumed that the amp was primarily used in a rack situation and that the footswitch was seldom used. It is unknown whether this amp was used in a live or studio situation by Steve Miller Band, however the ownership provenance and information we've gathered from Rivera points to definite previous ownership by Steve Miller
